The way this cap locks and unlocks makes it a bit cumbersome. I purchased
this to replace a lock-less cap for my 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Gas is
currently about $4.20 gal and thieves are not shy about getting their gas
for free.
To install this cap, you screw in into the tank, but it keeps
turning, and turning. You need to turn the key the opposite way
(counter-clockwise) as the direction your turning the cap, in order for
it to lock up.
To remove the cap, you need to hold it still with one
hand, as you turn the key clockwise until it unlocks and then turn the cap
counter-clockwise.
Now, in other caps I've used, the lock works without handeling the cap. Just turn the key, pull out your key ... remove the cap. If that's the kind of cap you are looking for, look elsewhere. But, this cap does do what it's supposed to do and for under $12 bucks, it's hard to ignore it's value. What is that now ... le ss than 3 gallons of fuel?
